Hi everyone,
This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to ask, but I’m reaching out for help for my furbaby, Zara—my heart and my emotional support animal.
I adopted Zara when she was 8 months old after she had been abused and passed through multiple homes. I found her shortly after losing my childhood dog, during a time when I was struggling deeply with my mental health. From the moment she came into my life, Zara became my comfort, my stability, and my reason to keep going. She is my ESA, my constant companion, and my heart. It's my turn to give back for all the ways she has made my life colorful again.
Despite her past and her anxiety, Zara has always been joyful, loving, and brave.
Recently, Zara suffered a devastating freak accident. She experienced a severe joint dislocation in her hind leg where her ankle became separated from her toes. We are now faced with an impossible decision: attempting a surgical fusion or amputating her leg.
We tried to make a home fusion work through splinting, but it has already caused soo many complications. After consulting with several veterinarians, fusion is currently the best long-term option, though we are still waiting on additional trusted opinions. No matter which route we choose, the costs are overwhelming.
Fusion is estimated at $5,000–$8,000+
Amputation is estimated at $3,500–$4,700
I am a college student just trying to start my adult life, and this unexpected expense is more than I can handle alone. Both options also come with long-term risks, including chronic arthritis—especially with amputation, which can affect her remaining limbs and spine.
I want to do what is best for Zara—physically, emotionally, and long-term. She has already survived so much, and she deserves a future without pain.
Anything you’re able to give—donating, sharing, or even just keeping Zara in your thoughts—means more than words can say. Thank you for helping me fight for my girl.
With love and gratitude,
Zara's fur-mama Raeleigh
