I’m Zaniya, a Pakistani trans woman, currently in Kansas. I came here on a student visa to escape family abuse however I’ve been tied to them due to finances and my Uncle in NC who is my sponsor.

I grew up in an extremely abusive and controlling household and needed to escape desperately for which I had to play a role to make sure I got out. However starting HRT has changed the situation drastically where It is not safe for me to return home and still being under their financial control puts me in a dire situation.

I have had absolute hell finding work here. i’m on OPT meaning I can work legally in my field. I was let off my old job in early May and have had no support in finding anything as there’s nothing in this small midwest town hence I have no stable income.

I simply do not wish to be under my family’s grip. In 2022, my mother threatened conversion therapy (T shots) when she stumbled across my clothes hidden in my closet. I was forced to cut my hair or else senseless beatings. Etc etc. I am at a very low point and wish to cut ties and relocate to California and apply for asylum.
