Help Zane Secure a Service Dog for Epilepsy & PTSD

Donation protected
I’m fundraising for a service dog ‍
I have a spicy electric meatball! This is what they call in scientific circles, epilepsy.

To help me stay safe during a seizure, we want to get me a service dog. In order to make this happen, we need some fundraising help.

Before now, I’ve thought many times in the past about getting a service dog to help me with my mental health. After multiple hospital visits & waking up with a tube in my throat we decided it was time to finally work toward this goal.

We hope to feed two birds with one scone (we don’t kill birds here) with a service dog who can help with my Complex-PTSD struggles in addition to the epilepsy adventures.

We plan to adopt a black lab from a local labrador rescue. (This specific breed suggested by trainers for my medical and mental health needs)

Here are some things the dog will be trained to help me with:
  • Turn me onto my side during a seizure (to prevent choking)
  • Alert someone nearby in the event of a seizure
  • On-time medication reminders
  • Disrupt zone out episodes (disassociating) and disrupt minor self-harming behaviors occurring during those episodes
  • Ground me during anxiety episodes to prevent panic attacks (and ground me during panic attacks)

Here is information about my fundraising goals and where the dog will be trained:

  • The organization helping with this journey will be Dog Training Elite
  • Cost for training is around $6,000
  • Cost of the rescue pup will be TBD but will be shared when established
  • There is a $1000 down payment to start training.
I am reaching out for any amount we can gather to help make this happen. A service dog would provide an exceptional sense of security for myself and my wife. We could stop worrying about all kinds of things, like me choking on barf mid seizure if she’s at work…
Thank you for reading. Nothing about this request was easy to write. I appreciate you.
