Zana's Message:
A note from Joey: If you know me, you know Zana is my best friend. She's seen me through break ups, new relationships, 4 cross country road trips, 7 different moves, my second masters degree, the loss of my mom and the difficult two years that followed. She's helped me make new friends and she's been by my side and lifted my spirits when I didn't want to get out of bed. She's helped me find joy when I thought all was lost and she's shown me how deep I can love. If it's true that we're sent angels to guide us through our most difficult times, then she's most certainly been mine. She's helped me in ways that I don't even know how to put into words, but what I do know is that it's my turn to help her.
Last year, due to the generosity of a very kind soul, I was able to get pet insurance for Zana just in case emergencies like these occurred. Unfortunately, insurance doesn't cover a torn ACL if it happens in the first year of coverage. This means I'm on my own to pay for her surgery. I've been told the surgery will cost anywhere from $3200 - 3800 and then there's some after care. Without the help of insurance, I don't have the financial means to pay for this and so I've done my best to look into other treatments.
Over the last couple of months we've been taking it easy and not going to any dog parks which has been hard for her to understand. She's been taking medication and I had hoped that rest and leg braces would help, but it seems her leg is only getting worse. She hops or hobbles on her three legs, but she can't put too much weight on her back right leg without it causing her pain. I'm hoping to schedule the surgery as soon as I can raise enough funds for her. It's breaking my heart watching her struggle to get up and then watching her hobble around once she does.
Zana's only 5 years old and still has so much more running and playing to do. Please consider helping her by donating any amount that you feel comfortable to give. Every little bit helps and goes along way to helping her get back on her feet again.

A note from Zana: Thank you to everyone who is helping my person tend to me. I wish she didn't have to ask, but it means the world to me that she did. I'm still trying to keep my spirits up even though this leg of mine is proving to be quite stubborn. My person keeps telling me that one day I'll be able to run again. I hope she's right. Whatever happens I promise to do my best to keep a smile on my face and on her face, too.
