“We miraculously managed to escape Zamzam but our empty bellies are growling and the cries of hungry children haunt us. I have never felt so hopeless and helpless in my life.”, These are the words of Khadiga a survivor of the massacre in Zamzam, Darfur in April.
Following the attack by the Rapid Support Forces, she, along with her three children, were among at least 180,000 people who recently arrived in Tawila, fleeing for their lives.
My name is Altahir Hashim. We at Darfur Emergency Committee are raising funds for survivors of the massacre.
Hundreds of thousands of people were left in dire need of crucial assistance to support life after genocidal RSF forces overran Zamzam Internally Displaced Persons camp, burning homes, brutally massacring hundreds of innocent civilians and forcing them to flee for their lives. Many people are still trapped there, besieged and unable to escape.
This humanitarian crisis unfolding before our eyes requires a prompt and immediate response. Therefore, we are appealing to your generosity.
The funds we raise will go directly to providing the people of Abu Shouk IDP, Alfasher and the new arrivals in Tawila with medical supplies, water, and food, including support for communal kitchens.
With a three-month budget of £540,000, at the cost of £2 per meal, we seek to supply 1000 meals per day through the communal kitchens in Alfasher & Abu Shouk and 2,000 meals per day through the communal kitchens in Tawila.
We seek to supply 90 water tankers for Tawila and Abu Shouk IDP camp at the cost of £150 per truck.
With a month's budget of £20,000, we are seeking to supply medication, treatment and staff to the people in Alfasher and Abu Shouk IDP camp to help recovery from intensive drone and mortar attacks and artillery shelling.
We have already managed to organise with local volunteers of Alfasher and Tawila, who are themselves the displaced survivors of the Zamzam massacre. Kitchens and support networks have been established by these survivors, who we will work with, daily and extensively, trying to find ways to improve their conditions.
Your valuable contributions, no matter how small, will mean so much to many people during these extremely challenging times.
