Hi, This is Zalan's mom. I'm trying to help Zalan get to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to compete in the 2023 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship. Zalan has qualified to represent his birth country, Hungary. The competition begins Nov 24 and ends Dec 4, 2023.

Why We Need Your Help & What Your Donation Will Support

We are fundraising to help pay for travel expenses such as flights for Zalan and me, hostel accommodation, food, athlete insurance, shipping of board bag, transportation, coaching fees, extra fins and leashes, and other items that he will need. His dad, Zsolt & brother, Keve will stay home, cheering him on from thousands of miles away due to the cost.

About Zalan

He is 16 years old, and a junior in high school. He studies online to enable his surf training schedule. You see, nearly 3 years ago, Zalan began surfing and since that very first time on a board, this sport has been his passion and obsession. He has been competing as often as possible with successes under his belt. He is determined and works really hard to become a professional athlete in surfing. He's always been athletic; from playing high-level select soccer, swimming, scuba diving, boxing, biking to surfing, he's always training. He's truly an amazing kid!

Why Now

Zalan qualified just days ago to represent Hungary in shortboard surfing in the 2023 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship. He is an athlete determined to make his country proud. Zalan is a signed, registered athlete for surfing with the Budapest Honved Sports Club. This is Zalan's chance to compete in the U16 Category. If he does well, he may have a shot to compete in other events and continue to represent his country.

As a family, we have done our very best to support Zalan and his brother with their athletic dreams and talents (his brother Keve surfs also). This means traveling to surf locations as often as we can, the gear, the coaches, the time and all the sacrifices that we as parents make for our kids. But sometimes, there comes a moment when you need help, and as uncomfortable as it may be to ask for help, the desire to see Zalan's big dream in life begin, supersedes all else.
