Greetings,
My name is Janet Saboor and I am sponsoring this go fund me appeal for Kenneth Zakee whose creative spirit has inspired many for years. I am appealing to the community to come together and raise $15,000 to make it possible for him to move to a handicap accessible apartment in West End Atlanta large enough to have space for a healing environment, including his art.
Kenneth Zakee is one of the early spoken word poets spinning tales of Black love. He worked in the area of substance abuse recovery for years and left to pursue creative arts full time. Zakee has appliqued, collaged, painted and poured his heart into the pieces he makes to grace our walls and adorn our bodies. One of his collage/quilts was on display at the Southwest Art Center in the Good Trouble Quilt Exhibit Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Congressman John Lewis as part of the Atlanta Quilt Festival.
By donating generously, you will be making it possible for Zakee to continue creating in a nurturing environment. He is currently a resident studio artist at the Arts Xchange in East Point and serves on the board of directors. His health challenges as a diabetic amputee have made it imperative that he relocate to a sterile environment with accessible amenities. Zakee is now in the hospital recuperating from surgery and treatment for an infection. I am making this appeal so that he will be able to move by mid-July into a place that will make his life more creatively productive.
Please join me in helping our brother Kenneth Zakee with this crucial next step in his recovery. Many thanks!
