My nephew Zachary has Aspergers and has had many struggles in his life. He met and married his dream girl 2 years ago, Kyndra McKie from Idaho. They were so excited to start their family right away.

Despite the fact that he has struggle to keep a job due to his disability, he has always managed to support his new family. He decided to enroll in the Salt Lake Community Police academy. It seemed like he had finally found his niche. He worked super hard. He was excelling in class and passed the first block with flying colors and was really looking forward to starting the second half in January.

Zachary and Kyndra were ecstatic to find out they were finally pregnant after trying for over a year. They were picking names and had gotten a baby swing. They had an ultrasound done at 7 weeks and saw a perfect little fetus with a healthy heart beat.  Two weeks later Kyndra went to her first OB appt only to be told that the baby had died. They were devastated and had started looking at the options to move the process forward. It had been a very sad an emotional few days.

Zachary had picked up several extra shifts as a newly sworn in Constable because Kyndra couldn’t work. They were emotionally preparing themselves to get through what was to come in the next few days with the lost of the pregnancy.

On his way to work two days after finding out the baby had passed he was involved in a serious head on collision. There were 4 vehicles involved in the accident, Zachary’s being the worst. His car was pushed into oncoming traffic and he hit another car head on. The vehicle that caused the accident left the scene. He has a severely broken leg, a fractured vertebrae, fractured ribs, a little bit of bleeding on his brain, a lacerated lip and some muscle bruising.

The doctor said he will recover from all of his injuries but it’s going to take some time and they still have to somehow get through the lost pregnancy. His car is totaled, he can’t work for several months and he won’t be able to complete the police academy for awhile.

For once in his life everything seemed to be going his way and then in a matter of days it all came crashing down, literally.


He has insurance that is going to cover most of the medical bills and his car but due to the fact that he can’t work for several months they have bills that need to be covered, especially this time of year.
