My nephew Zach and his girlfriend Emily welcomed Wesley on Sept 2nd at 8:01pm, at U of I, in Iowa City. At their 20 week anatomy scan, they learned he had several heart defects, that would require surgery (possibly multiple surgeries) to correct, shortly after birth. So far, he has been placed on a breathing tube and a procedure for a balloon to be placed, to widen a flap, that was essentially slowly closing. This was a temporary fix, until his big surgery. Wesley is currently stable in the Cardiac PICU , but, has and can change at anytime. It is unknown how long they will be in Iowa City. The big surgery has not been scheduled yet, as the team of doctors are meeting to determine if they are able to repair the defects all in one or break up into multiple surgeries. Between surgery and recovery, they could be down there for several months. Zach is currently on FMLA through work, which is all unpaid. They currently are having to get discounted hotel rooms, until they can secure a room at Ronald McDonald House. Also, they have been having to “eat” out, or hospital cafeteria for meals, as they don’t have anywhere to prepare meals. They have “saved” up as much as they could, to prepare, but all of this is quickly adding up. We are trying to gather funds, to alleviate any obstacles for them, to ensure they can continue to be with Wesley. We all would be forever grateful for any support.
