Before breast cancer, Yvonne was a vibrant, hilarious, independent outdoorsy nerd who spent hours outside growing plants. Her laughter was contagious, and her courage was admirable and fierce. Since her diagnosis, I, her daughter, have had the horrifying role of watching my own worst nightmare unfold. Persistence, love, and sacrifice were the life lessons that she taught me as a single parent. Mommy was the one who I could always run to for guidance and support. She made every sacrifice to rub away the sting of having an absent father. And now, more than ever, she needs guidance and support.
Hello, my name is Rashai, and last year my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 Breast Cancer with metastasis to the spine.
Her name is Yvonne Powell. A devoted mother. An endearing sister. And a loving daughter. Please help to give her a fighting chance.
As a single parent with failing health, that kept her from working. With little means, she had no other choice but to take matters in her own hands. Therefore, I grew up watching my mother try natural home remedies one after the other for years with limited success.
At an early age, my mother witnessed hardworking women in her family fall to breast cancer. Her aunt and then there was her grandmother before that. She would recount stories of each of these women were dexterous and loving. Each of their deaths was a crushing blow to her spirit that left her with crippling fear of "you're next". Images of her grandmother’s final breath haunted her nightmares and anxieties of the cancer’s aggressive destruction of strong women who once stood immoveable in her life left their mark on her.
Recently, doctors have advised us on the cancer’s progression. Tumours in her L-Spine and C-Spine have grown to compress her spinal cord causing her discomfort, stiffness, and neuropathy in her limbs at the best of times and debilitating agony in her back and legs and burning hands at the worst of times. It’s heart breaking to watch. Her painful hoarse cries for any sort of relief are heart wrenching to hear. Her motor skills have become even more limited since her recent fall. The doctors’ reports have shown that her vertebrae in metastasized areas are fractured and on the cusp of collapse. She also needs radiation to treat the cancer before growth leaves her paralyzed with irreparable nerve damage. The news has left us devastated as the little means we have had at our disposal have been exhausted in the maintenance of her treatment and rising costs since the Covid-19 pandemic. Both procedures come to a preliminary amount of approximately $25000.00USD and she needs this emergency medical action as she is fighting against the clock.
Please, I am begging you. Help me save my mother.
