Our beautiful friend is in the fight of her life against an aggressive brain cancer and needs our help urgently!!!
After bravely facing down breast cancer in 2019, Yvette was suddenly diagnosed in April with a HER-2 positive brain metastases after fainting at home. It was found that the cancer had formed a large tumour and also spread down her spine.
Yvette quickly underwent surgery to remove a large portion of the tumour, but not all could be removed without serious damage to her brain. This was followed by an intensive and debilitating course of radiation therapy.
Despite her courage, both the radiation and cancer has taken a heavy toll on Yvette, with her speech and mobility now greatly impacted.
Doctor's have this week recommended an urgent treatment of a new drug, Kadcyla, specifically developed as an after surgery treatment for this type of cancer. Despite being on the PBS for HER-2 breast cancer since 2020, the drug is not yet available for government support in cases of brain metastases.
As a result, each round of treatment will cost $7000, and it is possible Yvette could need 10 rounds or more.
This drug is now the best treatment option for Yvette to regain her quality of life. Yvette is fighting hard everyday, and despite her physical limitations is maintaining her bright and positive attitude.
Yvette has been there for so many of us, on so many occasions, and now we need to be there for her. Let's do all we can to raise some much needed funds for our amazing friend in her time of need.
Please note: This page has been set up by Daniel Kruithoff, a close friend of Yvette Funke with the permission of her husband Steve Funke. The recipient of this fundraiser will be Steve Funke. The funds will be used for the purpose of paying for Yvette's ongoing medical treatment for cancer, her rehabilitation efforts and direct support for her immediate family to be able to provide constant care for Yvette while she is in hospital and through her rehabilitation period. As treatment is required the funds will be dispersed to Steve Funke as the recipient.
