Yusaira’s First Steps – A Story of Hope and Courage

A Day of Joy and Uncertainty

On December 30, 2021, our second daughter, Atiyyat Ur-Rahman Yusaira, was born in a hospital in Dhaka. Her arrival filled our hearts with joy. But on that very day, we faced an unexpected reality—her tiny hands and feet were not like other children’s. The doctors informed us that she had multiple congenital limb deformities, and we had no idea whether she would ever be able to walk.

Yusaira’s Physical Condition

From birth, Yusaira faced several physical challenges:

✅ Each hand has only four fingers, with no middle fingers.
✅ Her left foot has only two toes, while her right foot has four.
✅ An extra bone was present in her right thigh, which was abnormal.
✅ Both feet are curved inwards, making it impossible to place them flat on the ground.
✅ Her knees do not fully straighten, preventing her from standing or walking.
✅ Her overall foot structure is smaller than normal.

Despite this, we accepted her as a special gift from the Most Merciful and named her Atiyyat Ur-Rahman—“The Gift of the Most Merciful.” But we were completely unaware of whether a treatment existed, what it would involve, or how much it would cost.

A Long and Difficult Medical Journey

From the moment she was born, we sought consultation from the best pediatric orthopedic doctors in Bangladesh. However, none of them could give us any hope. At just 1.5 years old, she underwent her first surgery to remove the extra bone in her thigh. But even after that, we still didn’t have a clear diagnosis of her condition.

After extensive research, we discovered that Yusaira has Tibial Hemimelia—an extremely rare disorder, occurring in only 1 in 10 million births. But finding effective treatment for it was another major challenge.

Seeking International Treatment – A Final Chance to Walk

Since no doctor in Bangladesh could offer a solution, we reached out to specialists abroad. Most hospitals declined her case, stating that it was too complex. Finally, Dr. Ratnav Ratan from Manipal Hospital, Delhi, agreed to take it on.

In February 2024, we traveled to Delhi for a consultation, where he confirmed:

Yusaira has Tibial Hemimelia Stage 5C, one of the most severe forms.
She has no kneecaps, making the treatment even more difficult.
There is no guaranteed cure, but advanced reconstructive surgery can give her the ability to walk.
She will need 7-8 major surgeries.
She will have to stay in Delhi for 7-8 months.
The estimated cost is $30,000 - $50,000 (excluding travel, accommodation, and medical tests).
She is currently 3 years and 3 months old. If treatment is not completed before the age of 5, the surgeries will become extremely complicated, the success rate will decrease, and her mental health will be severely affected.

The window for successful treatment is very limited—if delayed, her chances of walking will significantly decrease, and the costs will keep rising.

Why We Need Your Help

As a teacher, I have tried everything possible to raise funds, including considering starting a business. But time is running out fast. We don’t want to look back with regret, wishing we had acted sooner.

This is why we are launching this fundraising campaign—to give Yusaira the best chance at a normal life.

Where Will the Funds Go?

Every single penny of this fund will be used for Yusaira’s treatment, surgeries, therapy, and rehabilitation.
