Hello Everyone,
This is my dog Yuri, my sweet baby who is less than 5 years old. Unfortunately, Yuri tore the ligament in his left back knee (CCL). This injury makes walking and running very painful. The instability of the joint now damages the cartilage and surrounding bones and leads to severe osteoarthritis.
Yuri was referred to a clinic with specialized orthopedic surgeons. We learned that the only way for Yuri to fully heal and live a pain-free, active life again is through a specialized knee surgery called a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy). It involves cutting and rotating the top of the tibia to stabilize the knee and securing it with an orthopedic plate and screws.
Yuri is scheduled to have surgery on February 13th. The total expense is estimated to be between $8,290.69 and $10,363.36. We were expecting it to be high, but honestly the amount has been overwhelming.
It’s been incredibly hard seeing him so sad because he cant enjoy walks or runs. It will be heartbreaking to see him in pain after surgery, but this is the only way he can fully enjoy life again. He deserves to get back to his sweet happy self.
After surgery, Yuri’s recovery will be long and challenging:
- He will need strict rest and will wear a cone for over two weeks
- His stitches will be removed after two weeks
- The bone will take 8 weeks to heal
- He will then require an additional 8 weeks of physiotherapy
Full recovery will take several months and can take up to half a year.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward:
- Yuri’s TPLO surgery
- Medications and follow-up visits
- Rehabilitation and physiotherapy
