Help Save Yumi’s Paw After a Horrific Dog Attack
Our little 15-pound Shiba Inu, Yumi, has always had what we call her permanent smile. She loves everyone she meets, instantly makes new best friends, and is one of the sweetest, happiest little dogs you could ever know.
Right now, that smile is gone.
- On September 10, 2026, Yumi was in her own fenced yard when our neighbor’s much larger dog attacked her through the fence, grabbed her, and dragged her through it.
Yumi desperately fought to get back to safety. With the help of her Shiba brother, she somehow managed to pull herself back through the fence—but the attack left her with a devastating injury. The pad of her paw was ripped almost completely off.
What we initially hoped would be an injury that could heal has turned into something much more serious.
Yumi has needed daily veterinary visits and ongoing wound care, and despite treatment, tissue in her injured paw has become necrotic. We are now facing the heartbreaking possibility that Yumi could still lose her paw.
Every day, we are watching our normally happy, affectionate little girl struggle. She is in pain. She shakes. She doesn’t want to eat. She is withdrawn and depressed. The little dog who normally greets everyone with a smile simply isn’t herself.
And perhaps the hardest part is knowing this wasn’t the first attack.
The same dog previously attacked our other Shiba through the fence, biting him and leaving a wound. After this second—and far more devastating—attack, we hoped our neighbors would step forward and take responsibility for what their dog had done.
They have refused.
So while we are focused on helping Yumi heal, we are also facing the mounting cost of daily veterinary care, medications, wound treatment, and whatever procedures may still be necessary to save her paw.
We don’t know yet exactly what Yumi’s road to recovery will look like. We don’t know how long it will take. And, devastatingly, we still don’t know if she will come through this with all four paws.
What we do know is that we will do everything we possibly can for her.

Yumi is only 15 pounds, but anyone who has met her knows how much love and personality can fit into such a tiny dog.
