Help Youth Robotics Team Compete on World Stage!

Donation protected

FIRST Tech Challenge team 16091 T.W.C.A. (Team Without a Cool Acronym) has advanced from the Utah Region Championship and earned the opportunity to compete at the FIRST World Championships in Houston, Texas!

FIRST is a youth organization that stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The program is progressive, starting with preschool-age children building robots out of LEGO's and culminates with seniors in high school, building and competing with large custom robots worldwide! In FIRST Tech Challenge, youth teams consisting of between 2 and 15 students field a team where they must perform volunteer work, outreach about the FIRST program, engage with business professionals and engineers in their community, and complete the task of building a robot capable of both autonomous and driver-controlled tasks.

Team Without a Cool Acronym is a 3rd-year team consisting of 9 youth members from neighboring towns of Hurricane, Toquerville, and Washington City in Southern Utah. Katelyn, the team's founder, and captain has been competing in FIRST for 7 years this of which is her last season. Experience of other team members ranges from 6 years to this being their first season. T.W.C.A. qualified for the FIRST World Championship last season as well but was disappointed to find the event canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. T.W.C.A. is themed off of the hit television show Phineas and Ferb from Disney. Over the years, T.W.C.A. has formed a relationship with the creators of the show who are big fans and supporters of the team.

This year the championship is back on! Because team members come from different economical backgrounds, they need their community's help in getting them to Houston in April. See below for a breakdown of estimated expenses for the trip.

$2,000 - Event Registration
$3,600 - Travel to Event
$3,700 - Team lodging for 6 days, 5 nights
$1,800 - Meals
