We need a little community magic
The Anacostia Youth Media Team just wrapped an incredible weekend participating in the 48 Hour Film Project Washington DC (May 1–3). In just three days, our youth — alongside AU students, alumni, and mentors — wrote, shot, and edited a full short film from scratch. It was intense, collaborative, joyful, and deeply meaningful.
Now comes the exciting part: the screening

Here’s where I need your help.
I (Brigid) misunderstood the ticketing situation and wasn’t able to secure more than two complimentary tickets — and tickets are $15 each. That means families could end up paying up to $60 just to come see their child’s work on screen.
Anacostia Youth Media programming is always free and accessible, and I want to keep it that way. This one’s on me — and I’m hoping we can come together to support our youth.
We’re doing a short-term call for donations:
✨ $15 = one ticket for a young filmmaker or their family member
✨ Any amount helps us make sure every youth can bring their people to celebrate their work
If you’re able to contribute, you’re directly helping a young person share a moment they worked incredibly hard for.
This program is about more than filmmaking — it’s about mentorship, creative ownership, and building community. Over the weekend, youth led the entire process: developing the script on Zoom Friday night, filming Saturday at THEARC, and editing Sunday with support from dedicated mentors and AU’s School of Communication.
We’ve been building this model since 2021, and it continues to be a powerful space for youth voices to lead.
If you can give, thank you. If you can share, thank you. If you’ve supported before — truly, thank you.
Let’s get these young filmmakers in the room where their work shines ✨
