Help your girl take a BREAK!

If you know me, you know that I am usually too stubborn and too prideful to ask for help. But today, I need yours.  At the end of 2017, I made the incredibly hard decision to leave my job at California Calls and move back to my childhood home in St. Louis.

Now, I’m making the incredibly hard decision to sit still and rest for sometime before I jump back into the thick of it. And I need your help to make my “Jessbbatical” a reality.

I know you have a ton of questions so here are some FAQs about what’s going on:

Why would you leave the beautiful, liberal oasis of the West Coast and go back to the wildly unpredictable weather and conservative midwest? Well, first off the west coast isn’t as liberal as you think, so chill out. The midBEST really needs those of us who have abandoned it to come home and help our families and friends fight. I'm going home to throw down.

AND sometimes going home and starting over is the best medicine when everything else looks bleak.

That sounds dramatic, why don’t you just take a vacation to St. Louis and come back to LA?  At the heart of going home, I’m just burned out. Totally and completely BURNT! I need help from my friends and family to get back to my true calling of fighting for our survival and ultimately our liberation. I need a space of care and unconditional love from people who will feed me when I forget to feed myself and lifelong friends who will drag me out of the house and force me to get fresh air when I've become consumed with work.

But, you’re too young to be tired!? I wish! Don't let "black don't crack" fool you into thinking I'm new to this. I’ve been working in activism/advocacy/policy work since I was in high school (over 15 years!). Bet you didn’t even know I was working FULL TIME as a data organizer while getting my Masters and that I moved to California before I even graduated! Over those years I’ve marched, organized, learned digital tools, experimented, taught myself how to code, soaked up everything I could, moved across the country, hustled, got my DREAM JOB, had half my thyroid taken out, made friends, went into deep debt, got shingles, led some great narrative thinking, was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, got into more debt, lost friends, helped start a movement seedling, worked during holidays, never took a real vacation etc etc etc.

I’m tired and disillusioned and sick and in debt. HELP!

OK, you sound like you are burned out. How do I help? Share. Your. Coin. Anything you have is helpful. I’m trying to raise enough to:

1. Cover the rest of my move home

2. Cover at least one month of the bills I can’t pause because I’m unemployed

3. Help me access health insurance (since I am moving to a state that did not expand Medicaid)

4. Give me a full week solo, off the grid in a city to be announced after I’m back to refocus and tap into my next steps.
