Our favorite local cashier from 711 in Brookline needs our help! Melissa has been going through some of the hardest things a person could go through. Right after Thanksgiving, her children's Father, Steve Brough, suddenly passed away in his sleep. As if that blow wasn't hard enough for her family, a few weeks later, Melissa was diagnosed with cancer. During all of this, she was still at 711 every morning with a smile and friendly conversation for everyone who needed it. Some customers maybe noticed her absences but when you saw her you never would've noticed how much she was going through with the way she stayed positive, even through chemo. Then on Tuesday January 2nd, Melissa went to work in the morning and noticed she felt a little weak and was tired, she opened the store and left after getting her coworker set up. Later that evening, she went to the hospital and found out she had brain tumors and needed immediate surgery to remove the largest ones. That Friday she underwent surgery which successfully removed the largest tumors from her brain. She's home now but still has a long journey ahead of her which will include chemo, immunotherapy, and radiation. Since her surgery she hasn't been able to work and if anyone knows how the Social Security system is, it's a long time before you can receive your first Social Security Disability payments. I'm starting this Gofundme because I know how much our community has rallied together for causes before and Melissa and her kids really could use the help right now. Any amount will help and thank you everyone!
