Help Younis and his family rebuild their lives

Hello friends,

My name is Tova Reznicek and I along with my friend Nehad are writing to help our colleague, Younis Abualnour, who recently escaped Gaza with his wife, elderly parents, and 4 children. They are all now in Cairo, struggling to make sense of the tragedy that they and fellow Gazans are facing.

Younis has been working with us remotely for 5 years. He is a physician whose specialty is juvenile diabetes and he has dedicated much of his life to helping diabetic Gazan children who cannot otherwise access care.

Younis’ mother is from Beer Sheva and his father is a native Gazan. They lived in Jaffa and fled to Gaza in 1967. Younis has twin girls in grade school, a teenage boy and a 19-year-old daughter who had begun medical school in Gaza. Due to Egypt’s restrictions, none of the children can attend school locally in Egypt, nor can Younis work or apply to be certified to practice medicine in Egypt. The family is still mourning the loss of Younis’ beloved sister who died two months ago of cardiac arrest during an aerial bombardment in Gaza. She had been separated from her two children during the attack--including her youngest daughter who has Down’s syndrome. The terror of the attack and believing her children had been killed triggered a heart attack that she did not survive, though her children were ultimately not physically injured.

We are trying to raise $5,000 for the family as a gesture of compassion and to let them know that they have not been forgotten despite having escaped the immediate danger of the war. Younis does not know about this effort as he is incredibly humble and we know that needing financial support has only added to the sadness the family has endured. We have therefore not included personal images of the family but instead, of some of the many children he helped through our work (the images are all from the summer of 2021, immediately after the last war on Gaza). Once the campaign is completed, we will let Younis know and offer him the option of transferring the funds to him by my own personal check to deposit into his account in Egypt.

Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated and make a difference in helping the family survive the challenges of knowing that their lives will never be the same.
