My dear friend Sarah, a 31 year old mother of two, discovered a lump in her breast at the end of March, 2023. On April 12, 2023, she had a total mastectomy as well as 10 lymph nodes removed. The cancer has invaded her lymph nodes. She has stage 2 breast cancer, and the next stage of treatment involves 8 rounds of chemotherapy followed by radiation and hormone therapy.

Sarah is my coworker at the Lahore American School in Lahore, Pakistan. She and her family have become like my family here in Pakistan. They are generous, kind-hearted, joyous people who prioritize education and giving to their community. Sarah has a master’s degree in biology and runs the secondary science lab at Lahore American School. She and her husband, Simon, a musician and teacher, live with Sarah’s parents along with their one-year-old daughter, Shazeel and four-year-old son, Shanzum. Every time I visit them in their modest home in Lahore, the house is filled with neighbors and relatives whom they are feeding and helping in some way. Their home is genuinely a sanctuary of love and kindness.

Sarah’s cancer was caught in time to give her a high chance of survival. However, she still has a long journey ahead before she is in the clear. The cost of treatment and loss of income is substantial. The sooner her treatment starts, the higher chance of survival she has. Yet, she cannot move forward without the money to pay for her treatment. I am reaching out on her behalf to raise the funds for Sarah’s treatment and survival.
