I am raising funds for my friend Nawal, a 17-year-old mother living in North Gaza with her husband and their one-month-old baby. Nawal is one of the sweetest, most affectionate, and bravest people I have ever met. Despite everything she has endured, she continues to care for her family with remarkable strength and love.
Nawal’s husband was severely injured during a bombing. He lost his leg and suffered devastating injuries to his other leg, back, and hand. He is now unable to stand or care for himself. At just 17 years old, Nawal has become his full-time caregiver while also caring for their newborn baby. Nawal gave birth under unimaginable circumstances in Gaza, where hospitals are overwhelmed, medical supplies are scarce, and basic care cannot be taken for granted. What should have been a safe and supported moment in her life instead took place in an environment defined by fear, instability, and severe shortages.
Now, she is struggling to find milk, diapers, and basic necessities for her baby, which are extremely difficult to access and often unaffordable. Their home has been taken over, forcing them to live displaced with another family. They do not have reliable access to food, medicine, clean water, or essential supplies. Families across Gaza are living through constant uncertainty, and every day Nawal is simply trying to keep her husband and baby safe and cared for.
