"22" is an original short thriller about the relationship between passion and the enemy within. It explores the directional uncertainties of early adulthood stemming from the fear of self-- The story of a young man named Josh, whose insecurities allow him to be so paralyzed by the weight of the future, that he never pursues his aspirations. On the night his 22nd birthday, he encounters a disturbing anomaly that starts the clock on the end of the life he never lived...

We're a passionate group of emerging filmmakers based in Vancouver, BC. Made up of graduates and professionals from Capilano University, we are assembling the dream team of actors, artists and technicians to bring our director – Angus Law’s vision to reality.

A word from the director:

The fear of failure is born from a fear of the self. When combined, they become an unstoppable force of self-oppression which manifests fear into reality. Succumbing to the fear of failure is the greatest failure of all; it is condemning the self to a future of regret and a present of failure before an opportunity to fail even arises. The gate to this path opens when we allow the fear of the self to creep in during times of uncertainty, times such as the aftermath of coming of age, when upon crossing the stage, we are faced with the unfathomable weight of the future, with fear to meet it.

This is the story of a young man named Josh, ripe with potential but who is so paralyzed by the mere prospect of failure, that he never begins to try. Like Josh, I am dipping my foot into adulthood. As I hold my future in hand, the residual fear of self from coming of age continues to loom over me, I begin to sweat, and my grip loosens. The fear of failure is the bane of all creative ambition. I yearn to create, yet for much of my creative journey, I turn away from any idea that isn’t perfect upon conception, and so I am stuck waiting for the next fleeting light of potential to appear, only to watch it pass by.

One day, I stumbled upon an old project of mine that I was once ashamed of. It was then that I saw beauty in it, I saw myself in all my imperfection and how far I’d come. I realized that my fear of self conjured up an illusion that perpetuated a self-fulfilling prophecy. From this, I began a new phase of my creative journey in which I allowed myself to fail and learn. Through this acknowledgement, I was able to welcome my flaws and relate them to that of who would become our Josh. This film is the actualization of a dream I had forced to lay dormant, finally awoken. This is my acceptance of failure, and action toward the future.
