Tuesday, May 17th, Simone and Dylan’s life was completely upheaved in the most unimaginable way. At noon, a garbage truck heading south on SR 35 blew a front tire and the driver lost control. From news reports, the truck veered across both south bound lanes, the grassy median, and both north bound lanes. As vehicles swerved, it barreled across US 35.
Like most lunchtimes, Simone was in the process of getting a meal put together for herself and her 11 month old daughter. Their beloved four month old lab mix puppy, Boujee, alerted her mom that something was happening. By the grace of God, Simone picked up her daughter and went to investigate. That heroic puppy’s actions, unbeknownst to anyone at the time, would save Simone and her daughter’s very lives. Seconds later the garbage truck went crashing through the kitchen of their home.
The entire kitchen where Simone and her daughter were - just mere seconds before - was completely leveled by the truck's out of control careening through their home. Words don’t begin to convey how much destruction happened. To say the kitchen was leveled and removed from the house is a tepid description compared to the visual images. Or how close to death Simone and her daughter had potentially come. Simone was transported to have gashes she received from flying debris stitched back together. Her little girl survived thanks to their puppy’s alert.
After over two long hours of searching for Boujee, she was found in the wreckage and rubble of what was once their home's kitchen. Sadly, after family friends raced her to the vet, she succumbed to her injuries. This little four month old pup died a hero having saved her humans.
This family has had their lives torn apart completely by this life altering crash. What has happened to them, what terror Simone went through, is completely unimaginable to most of us. Please help us help Simone, Dylan and their baby girl recover from the complete loss of their home. Sadly while nothing can replace the tragic loss of their hero pup, not stressing over the purchase of every day items like diapers, until this is resolved will help this young family begin their recovery and healing process.
