Help Yonas Tsegay and Support his Family

Hi, My name is Mebrahtu Hidray,

On behalf of the Eritrean community in diaspora I would like to bring to your attention, a situation which is heartbreaking and can be supported through our actions.

 

A family man in Eritrea by the name of Yonas Tsegay is diagnosed with Blood Cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma). Within his family are his 6 children all under the age of 18 and a wife who is struggling to support her kids while also supporting her ill husband. With money on a tight budget to support children in their education and to put food on the table, they have no funds to get their loved one the medical attention he needs.

 

Yonas is the child of a warrior. His father died in brutal battle when he was younger and he's an only child with no mother to sit by his side as she passed away as well. No other family aside from his wife and kids to support him. Yonas' illness was hidden from the public, but not intentionally. It was not until recent media attention did the Eritrean community in diaspora and within the nation know about our fellow brother, husband and father was under these circumstances.

 

Some days the children stay home from school to help their mother and father, other days they sit in class physically, but mentally and emotionally they are fighting within themselves to find solutions to the predicament they are in. This has caused a mental and physical toll on their bodies to the point where they are failing in school, but they still attend in hopes to get some education.

The funds donated here will go toward his medical costs in hopes of getting him back on his feet to support his family. The funds are needed urgently, as each passing day Yonas' illness gets harder to treat.
