Help Yoda Have a Peaceful Goodbye

For the past seven years, my dog Yoda has been my constant companion. She’s a 13-year-old Akita who has walked beside me through some of the most important and challenging chapters of my life. We’ve spent countless hours hiking in nature together — her favorite place in the world — where she would stop to take in every smell, every breeze, every little piece of the wild. At night, she would curl up nearby, softly snoring, a quiet and comforting presence. She has been more than a pet to me. She has been family, my emotional support, and a steady source of love and loyalty.

Over the past several months, something changed. Yoda began showing sudden aggression that was completely out of character, including an unprovoked bite that required an ER visit. It has been heartbreaking and frightening to see this shift in a dog who was once so gentle with the people around her. Given her age and the severity of the behavior change, we believe something deeper may be happening neurologically or physically. Despite trying every alternative—muzzling, kenneling, and training—her condition has worsened. After many difficult conversations and a lot of soul-searching, I’ve made the painful decision to let her go peacefully rather than allow her final months to be filled with stress, management, and the risk of someone else getting hurt.

This has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I want her last moments to be calm and surrounded by love. The most compassionate option available is at-home euthanasia, where a veterinarian comes to our house so Yoda can pass peacefully in a familiar place, surrounded by the people she trusts. The funds raised will help cover the cost of the euthanasia, cremation, and the special transport needed to make this possible. I’m currently navigating a major life transition and don’t have the financial ability to cover it on my own. My hope is simply to give her the gentle, dignified ending she deserves — not in a stressful clinic, but at home where she feels safe. Thank you for helping me give my best friend the peaceful goodbye she deserves.
