Eight years ago, I packed up my life in Rio de Janeiro with nothing but my dreams, humor, and a heart full of hope. I brought that same warm energy to the U.S., where I’ve worked hard to build a life that feels like home. Over the years, I’ve laughed, struggled, grown, and contributed to the community around me.

But there’s one part of this journey I haven’t finished yet: becoming a U.S. citizen.

Citizenship isn’t just about a piece of paper—it’s about belonging. It’s about having a voice and the rights that come with it, like voting, advocating for the issues I care about, and being able to say, “This is my country too.” It’s about fully embracing the place where I’ve built my life and future.

But as much as this process feels like the American dream, it doesn’t come cheap. The cost? I'll pay around $1,000 for application fees, mailing expenses, and a lawyer to make sure everything’s done right.
