My dear friend Yevgeniy is battling a challenge. His hand became infected, and the mismanagement of treating his hand led to him almost losing his arm. He is a beautiful human being and uses his boxing knowledge to work with countless children since I met him 17 years ago. He cannot train people any longer until his hand is healed, and he cannot afford his medical care because he is not able to work to fund his own bills. Proper medical care will help restore him, and he needs our help, please. If everyone reading this gives $5, he will have a chance to get his life back by paying for his medical care, paying for his rehab, and returning to work within our beautiful United States of America. Please don’t scroll back, $5 helps to reach our goal. Help save the rest of this kind human being’s life. Thank you. He sent me this below.
# Help Me Recover from a Botched Hand Surgery and Get Back on My Feet
Hello, my name is Yevgeniy Kievskiy, and I've always been someone who believes in pushing through challenges to become a better version of myself—and that's exactly what I've tried to instill in my students as a coach. For years, I've dedicated my life to guiding young people, helping them build resilience, confidence, and skills both on and off the field. They've looked up to me as a role model, and I've taken that responsibility to heart. But now, after a devastating medical ordeal that started with what should have been a routine surgery, I'm the one in need of support. I'm turning to GoFundMe because the physical, emotional, and financial toll has left me struggling to keep going, and I need your help to rebuild my life.
It all began when I sought treatment for lingering issues from a previous fracture on my left hand and a bothersome bump on my right. I trusted Dr. Michael Starcher at Jamaica Hospital to perform a surgery to smooth out the bones and restore functionality. From the very start, things went awry. After the procedure, two of my cherished necklaces—personal items of great sentimental value—were not returned to me by hospital personnel, adding unnecessary stress to an already vulnerable time.
A few weeks later, during a follow-up at Dr. Starcher's office, he noticed a cyst had developed on my right hand and decided to drain the fluid. He attempted this twice, but the second time was excruciating. Using a circular motion to puncture it, he caused tremendous pain that I can still feel echoing in my memory. By that evening, my hand was infected and had swelled to three times its normal size, with the inflammation spreading all the way up to my elbow. Despite this, Dr. Starcher only prescribed Bactrim antibiotics and painkillers for a "possible infection" and didn't urge me to seek emergency care right away. The follow-up was on a Friday, and it wasn't until Sunday night that I finally went to the ER at NYU Langone in Manhattan.
What followed was a nightmare I never could have anticipated. I was admitted for six grueling days, hooked up to IV antibiotics and undergoing intensive treatment to combat the severe infection. The complications didn't stop there. Months of physical therapy ensued, but even now, I have limited range of motion in my hand, making simple tasks feel impossible. The ordeal triggered high blood pressure, relentless headaches, psychological distress, and chronic sleep loss that persisted for months. I've battled anxiety and depression, feeling like the strong, capable person I once was had been stripped away.
The impact on my life has been profound. As a coach, I thrived on being active and hands-on with my students, motivating them to overcome obstacles and strive for excellence. Now, I'm sidelined—unable to continue coaching at all. My own business, which I've poured my heart into, is barely hanging on; I struggle to perform even basic duties with my impaired hand. Doctors have recommended another surgery to remove the carpal bossing and improve my range of motion, but with the ongoing health issues I'm facing—physical pain, hypertension, and mental health struggles—I'm terrified to go through it. The thought of more procedures, more recovery time, and more uncertainty is overwhelming.
Financially, this has been a crushing blow. Medical bills have piled up from the hospital stays, therapies, medications, and follow-up appointments. I've maxed out credit cards to cover these costs, and now I'm drowning in debt while trying to manage ongoing treatments and everyday expenses. Without my coaching income and with my business suffering, I'm in a precarious position, barely able to make ends meet. I've always been the one helping others, but now I need to ask for help myself.
That's why I've started this GoFundMe campaign. Your generous donations will go directly toward:
- Covering outstanding medical bills and credit card debt from the initial surgery and complications.
- Funding ongoing physical therapy and potential future surgery to regain hand function.
- Supporting mental health counseling to address the psychological trauma.
- Helping with living expenses while I work to rebuild my coaching career and stabilize my business.
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a real difference in getting me back to the person I was—the coach who inspires, the entrepreneur who perseveres, and the individual who believes in second chances. If you can't donate, sharing this campaign with your network would mean the world to me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading my story and considering supporting me. Together, we can turn this setback into a comeback. Let's show my students—and everyone—that even in our toughest moments, community and kindness can help us rise again.
With gratitude,
Coach Yev
