Help Yeller recover from gunshot wounds!
While visiting my grandparents in Pennsylvania on Friday, Oct 15 at 7:00pm, my grandmothers cat Yeller escaped from the house. Tragically, within an hour of escape, the cat was shot in the leg by a an unstable neighbor! This is a delicate time because Granny is currently receiving hospice and end of life support.
My grandpa was devastated, as Yeller was a stray he and my grandmother adopted together. We immediately drove 1.5 hrs and were able to get him stabilized with the help of small town vet. The vet could only give him basic care and was not equipped to do X-rays, which would help determine if his leg could be saved or if amputation would be necessary. The small town vet recommended that Yeller be seen by a surgeon/emergency veterinary office within the next 24 hours for x-rays, antibiotics, and pain medication. Following his advice, we drove Yeller to Rivers Veterinary Urgent Care on October 16th. The doctor, not an orthopedic surgeon concluded Yeller’s leg must be amputated.
After speaking with my grandfather, and veterinary offices in our local area (Fairfax, Virginia) my family decided that Yeller’s complete recovery, and the saving of his front leg depended on his ability to see a specialist in Virginia.
This cat is so important to my grandfather, as he loses his wife of 57 yrs, and we would love to do anything we can to make sure the cat will continue to be there for him as he grieves.
The money raised in this fund will go to the cost of Yeller’s emergency surgery and recovery.
Thank you all for your generosity and kindness. We have been happily overwhelmed by the immense support we have received from our friends, family, and local community! :)
