Help Ye-Hun Lee in His Battle Against Leukemia
Donation protected
Hello,
I’m reaching out to share the courageous story of my dear friend’s son, Ye-Hun Lee. Born in S.Korea in 2018, Ye-Hun was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML) just three months after birth—a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer that primarily affects young children.
Ye-Hun has been battling this formidable disease with incredible bravery for several years. Sadly, JMML evolved into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), leading to the failure of his first hematopoietic stem cell transplant in 2022, which was donated by his older brother.
• Ye-Hun's older brother is donating his stem cell.
• Before/after the transplant
In November 2023, Ye-Hun underwent a second hematopoietic stem cell transplant after enduring seven rounds of high-dose chemotherapy over six months. Though we hoped for a miracle, this procedure has brought significant challenges. Ye-Hun’s skin is severely peeling, causing painful wounds on his arms, legs, back, and scalp. He has lost most of his hair and struggles with movement in his fingers and toes. His tear ducts are damaged, making it impossible for him to produce tears. After spending over a year and four months in the hospital, he has developed depression and is now on medication because he used to say, “I better die now” or “I might die soon.”
Despite battling Graft vs. Host Disease (GVHD) and the failure of his second transplant, Ye-Hun's options are becoming increasingly limited. The remaining treatments are either additional lymphocyte infusions or a third hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Unfortunately, with each successive treatment, Ye-Hun’s survival chances decrease sharply.
Recently, Ye-Hun was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to sepsis several times. He is unable to eat and relies on nutritional supplements provided by the hospital. At just 6 years old, he weighs only 30 pounds (14 kg) and has spent most of his time in hospitals rather than attending kindergarten.
Yet, amidst these hardships, Ye-Hun’s spirit remains unbreakable. He is remarkably intelligent and can solve complex math problems that challenge even his older brother, who is two years his senior.
We are reaching out to ask for your support in fundraising to provide Ye-Hun with additional medical treatments. Your generosity could provide him with the crucial care and treatments he needs to continue this fight. All your support will beat Ye-Hun’s cancer.
Thank you for taking the time to read Ye-Hun’s story.
