Help Yazan and His Family Survive
Hi, my name is Hussein. I’m originally from Lebanon, but I’ve been living in the Netherlands for the past seven years, where I’m currently studying psychology. I’m also an LGBTQ+ advocate and human rights activist, deeply committed to supporting marginalized voices—especially those in our community who are suffering in silence.
I'm organizing this campaign on behalf of my dear friend Yazan Abdul, who is going through one of the most painful and dangerous situations anyone could imagine. You may notice the name on this campaign or email doesn't match Yazan’s—that’s because I’m managing it from here, to help him get the support he urgently needs. Yazan is in an extremely vulnerable position and doesn’t have direct access to fundraising platforms, so I’m doing everything I can to stand by him and raise awareness about his story.
Thank you for your trust and understanding—and now, please let me share Yazan’s story.
My name is Yazan Abdul. I’m 26 years old, and I’ve spent most of my life as an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in one of the most difficult regions in the world to be openly gay.
I come from a place devastated by war, poverty, and deep-rooted discrimination. Medical care is nearly unreachable, basic resources are scarce, and being queer is considered a crime—punishable by violence, imprisonment, or worse.
My father was killed in the war. Since then, I’ve lived with my mother, who is now battling cancer, and my sister, who lost her husband to the violence. We once had dreams and a home—now, we have only each other.
As a gay man, I’ve faced horrific abuse simply for who I am. I was arrested and brutally tortured for my identity. I was electrocuted, beaten, and left with permanent scars on my body and soul. I urgently need surgery to remove dangerous blood clots caused by the torture. My mother also needs critical cancer treatment, but we have no way to afford it.
Today, we are completely destitute—without shelter, without food, without safety. Each day is a fight to survive.
I studied economics and public relations. I had a passion for theater and a dream of helping others like me. But all of that was taken away by violence and oppression.
In this region, LGBTQ+ people face relentless persecution. There is no safety, no protection, no future for people like me. We are forced to live in constant fear, isolated and forgotten.
But with your support, that could change.
Your donation can help us survive today—and build a safer future.
It will help cover urgent medical care, food, shelter, and most importantly, it may allow me to leave this dangerous place and seek asylum in a country where I can live freely and safely, without fear of torture or persecution.
Even the smallest contribution can bring us one step closer to safety—one step closer to hope.
Please stand with us. Help us escape this nightmare and rebuild our lives in peace. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
