Hi, my name is Yjuanya, but most people know me as Yaya.
I'm a certified caregiver at an adult assisted living facility, where I care for nine residents five days a week. Eight of the residents I care for require memory care, along with assistance with activities of daily living.
My job is very hands-on. I prepare meals, assist with personal hygiene and incontinence care, provide activities and socialization, help maintain the household, and work alongside hospice, palliative care, and home health agencies. Caring for others isn't just how I earn a living — it's something that's very important to me.

Recently, an unexpected accident turned things upside down.
I slipped and fell at home and instinctively put my hand out to catch myself. I immediately heard and felt my wrist break.
Because of the injury, I missed 10 days of work — nearly an entire two-week pay period.
My orthopedic surgeon strongly recommended that I remain off work for at least six weeks so my wrist could properly heal. Unfortunately, financially, six weeks without a paycheck simply wasn't an option for me. I explained that to my doctor and asked if I could return to work on light duty. Thankfully, he agreed, and I'm now back at work doing what I can while my wrist continues to heal.

But returning to work doesn't replace the paycheck I already lost.
Right now, I'm trying to catch up on the basic expenses that continued while I was unable to work. I'm currently without health insurance, so I'm also responsible for the cost of my medical visits. At the same time, I still have rent and household expenses, my car payment, utilities, groceries, and all of the other everyday necessities that don't stop just because life throws you a curveball.
And anyone who has experienced a Yuma summer knows that keeping the electricity and air conditioning running isn't exactly optional!

Asking for help isn't something that comes naturally to me, but I've always heard that a closed mouth doesn't get fed. So, here I am, opening my mouth and admitting that right now, I could use a little help. ❤️

I'm hoping to raise $1,500 to help replace the income I lost and cover my immediate expenses while I continue working and healing.
I'm not asking for someone to take care of me long-term. I'm simply trying to bridge the financial gap created by an accident I never expected.
I spend my working days caring for people who need someone there for them. Right now, I'm asking for a little help while I get back on my feet.

Any amount — whether it's $5, $10, $20, or whatever you're comfortable giving — will make a difference. And if you're not in a position to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much and could help it reach someone who can.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for sharing it, for donating, or simply for keeping me in your prayers.

With love and gratitude,

Yaya ❤️
