Help My Brother Fight for His Life After Unexpected Complications

My brother is a healthy, active, and positive person who truly loves life. He went into what was supposed to be a planned surgery—the Ross procedure—trusting it would improve his health and future.

After a long 10-hour open-heart surgery, we were relieved when, just 12 hours later, he was already off the ventilator and medications. It felt like everything was going in the right direction.

Then, without warning, everything changed.

He suddenly suffered a massive heart attack caused by a clot. The medical team fought to keep him alive for hours. He had to be re-intubated, placed on life support, heavily sedated, and put on multiple medications just to maintain a blood pressure of 70/30. He went into cardiogenic shock.

He underwent an emergency procedure to place a stent, but complications continued. He developed multi-organ failure and required dialysis. The next day, his fever spiked to 43°C (109°F), and he went into sepsis. Shortly after, he had a severe reaction to blood thinners and developed jaundice.

When sedation was stopped, he remained in a coma.

He needed a tracheostomy due to prolonged ventilation and developed pneumonia.

For 12 long days, he was in a coma.

Then—our miracle happened.

He began to wake up.

At first, it was just small movements of his head. Then he started opening his eyes. Slowly, he began communicating with us—blinking once for “yes” and twice for “no.”

Today, he is still fighting. He is no longer on full life support, but he continues to battle a serious infection and faces a very long road ahead.

My brother is a hardworking man who never expected something like this to happen. Our family certainly didn’t either.

הוא התחיל להתעורר.

בהתחלה רק תנועות קלות של הראש. לאחר מכן פתח את עיניו. לאט לאט החל לתקשר איתנו – מצמוץ אחד ל"כן" ושני מצמוצים ל"לא".

כיום הוא עדיין נלחם. הוא כבר לא מחובר לכל מכשירי ההחייאה, אך עדיין מתמודד עם זיהום מורכב ועם דרך שיקום ארוכה מאוד לפניו.

אחי הוא אדם חרוץ, שמעולם לא ציפה שדבר כזה יקרה לו. גם אנחנו כמשפחה לא היינו מוכנים לכך.
