Hello everyone,

My name is Julissa Ramirez-Cruz, and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my cousin Herlin Ramirez for his daughter Yarlin Ramirez, who is currently fighting for her life in the Dominican Republic.

On January 23, Yarlín was on her way to a medical appointment when the MotoUber she was riding on was struck on the left side by an SUV. (In the Dominican Republic, MotoUber is a transportation service where passengers are transported by motorcycle or moped.)

The crash caused devastating injuries. Doctors discovered she had:

• 10 fractured ribs

• A collapsed lung

• Internal bleeding

Her condition was so serious that doctors had to place her into a medically induced coma and put her on a ventilator to stabilize her body before surgery.

Five days later, she underwent another major surgery where doctors placed metal plates in her chest to repair and stabilize 5 severely broken ribs.

Two days after the surgery, she was extubated, but her lungs developed a severe pneumonia, and she remained in intensive care for a total of 12 days. She was then transferred to a hospital room, where she continued receiving very strong antibiotics because the pneumonia persisted. In addition, she developed a fungal infection as a result of being intubated.

The pneumonia and fungal infection caused persistent high fevers. She was discharged after a week without fever, but five days later the fevers returned and she had to be readmitted to the hospital.

Doctors then discovered that a growing hematoma inside her spleen could rupture at any moment, so they performed emergency surgery to remove her spleen.

They then discovered abscesses in her lungs, and four days later performed a bronchoscopy to wash her lungs and collect cultures for testing.

Currently, doctors are administering the strongest antibiotics and antifungal treatments available, but both the fungal and bacterial infections have proven very resistant, making her recovery extremely challenging.

This tragic incident has placed an enormous financial strain on my cousin, Herlin Ramirez — Yarlín’s father. While her insurance was only able to cover the first 14 days of her hospital stay, as of today, March 5, 2026, Yarlín has been hospitalized for 36 days and continues to receive critical treatment.

Herlin and his family live in the small but beautiful campo of Juncalito in the Dominican Republic, where he has spent his entire life working hard to provide for his family and support his community. As the amazing father that Herlin is, he has taken on this burden himself, doing everything in his power to ensure his daughter receives the care she needs.

Now, after a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice, he is facing overwhelming medical expenses as he does everything possible to save his daughter.

Our hope is simply to raise as much as we can to help. They are currently facing medical bills totaling more than $30,000, which, to put it into perspective, is over 1,780,500 Dominican pesos. While it would be incredible to reach that amount, we would be deeply grateful for any support at all. Every dollar raised will go directly toward Yarlín’s medical care, medications, and the treatments she needs as she continues fighting for her recovery.

Yarlín is an incredible young woman with her whole life ahead of her. She moved from her small campo to the city of Santiago to pursue her bachelor’s degree and is currently in her final year of undergrad. She is determined to build a better future not only for herself, but for her family. She is resilient, caring, and deeply loved by everyone who knows her.

Ayuda a Yarlin Ramirez a luchar por su vida después de un accidente devastador

Hola a todos,

Mi nombre es Julissa Ramirez-Cruz, y estoy creando esta campaña de GoFundMe en nombre de mi primo Herlin Ramirez para su hija Yarlin Ramirez, quien actualmente está luchando por su vida en la República Dominicana.

El 23 de enero, Yarlín iba camino a una cita médica cuando el MotoUber en el que viajaba fue impactado en el lado izquierdo por una SUV. (En la República Dominicana, MotoUber es un servicio de transporte donde los pasajeros son transportados en motocicleta.)

El choque causó lesiones devastadoras. Los médicos descubrieron que tenía:

• 10 costillas fracturadas

• Un pulmón colapsado

• Hemorragia interna

Su condición era tan grave que los médicos tuvieron que colocarla en un coma inducido médicamente y conectarla a un ventilador para estabilizar su cuerpo antes de la cirugía.

Cinco días después, se sometió a otra cirugía mayor en la que los médicos colocaron placas de metal en su pecho para reparar y estabilizar 5 costillas gravemente fracturadas.

Dos días después de la cirugía, fue extubada, pero sus pulmones desarrollaron una neumonía severa, y permaneció en cuidados intensivos por un total de 12 días. Luego fue trasladada a una habitación del hospital, donde continuó recibiendo antibióticos muy fuertes porque la neumonía persistía. Además, desarrolló una infección por hongos como resultado de haber estado intubada.

La neumonía y la infección por hongos le causaron fiebres altas y persistentes. Fue dada de alta después de una semana sin fiebre, pero cinco días después las fiebres regresaron y tuvo que ser readmitida en el hospital.

Luego, los médicos descubrieron que un hematoma creciente dentro de su bazo podría romperse en cualquier momento, por lo que realizaron una cirugía de emergencia para extirparle el bazo.

Después descubrieron abscesos en sus pulmones, y cuatro días más tarde realizaron una broncoscopía para lavar sus pulmones y recolectar cultivos para pruebas.

Actualmente, los médicos están administrando los antibióticos y tratamientos antifúngicos más fuertes disponibles, pero tanto las infecciones fúngicas como bacterianas han demostrado ser muy resistentes, lo que hace que su recuperación sea extremadamente desafiante.

Este trágico incidente ha puesto una enorme carga financiera sobre mi primo, Herlin Ramirez — el padre de Yarlín. Aunque su seguro solo pudo cubrir los primeros 14 días de su estadía en el hospital, hasta el día de hoy, 5 de marzo de 2026, Yarlín ha estado hospitalizada por 36 días y continúa recibiendo tratamiento crítico.

Herlin y su familia viven en el pequeño pero hermoso campo de Juncalito en la República Dominicana, donde ha pasado toda su vida trabajando duro para salir adelante para su familia y apoyar a su comunidad. Como el increíble padre que es Herlin, ha asumido esta carga él mismo, haciendo todo lo posible para asegurar que su hija reciba la atención que necesita.

Ahora, después de pasarse la vida trabajando duro y con muchos sacrificios, se enfrenta a gastos médicos extremadamente altos mientras hace todo lo posible por salvar la vida de su hija.

Nuestra esperanza es simplemente recaudar lo más que podamos para ayudar.
