Yara was born extremely premature at just 26 weeks and 3 days, about 6 months into the pregnancy. She weighed only 885 grams and measured 33 centimeters. From her very first day of life, Yara has been fighting to survive.
Hospitalized since birth, after a year of struggle, Yara was finally able to leave the hospital in August 2025 and begin receiving multidisciplinary care at home.
Due to an immunodeficiency linked to her extreme prematurity, she is highly vulnerable to infections, especially in a hospital environment. Returning to the hospital would not only be very risky for her health, but could also jeopardize all the progress she has made thanks to the multidisciplinary care she receives at home.
Yara remains in palliative care due to severe chronic lung disease. Hospital readmissions only occur in case of infection, even mild, because her condition requires close monitoring and more intensive medical care than other children. She continues to receive multidisciplinary care at home to improve her quality of life and support her development.
Today, she lives with a tracheostomy to breathe, which must be changed every 4 months, and a gastrostomy for feeding. Due to her allergy to cow’s milk protein (CMPA), she requires an extensively hydrolyzed hypoallergenic formula, which is very expensive.
Her condition requires intensive daily care, specialized equipment, and constant monitoring. Some equipment is now essential to improve her quality of life:
- A speaking valves, to help her progress and catch up on her psycho-verbal and motor development
- A more suitable gastrostomy button (MIC-KEY type), recommended by her doctors
- Help cover medical bills and, if possible, build an emergency fund for unexpected expenses
In addition, the costs of her care, treatments, specialized nutrition, medical equipment, medications, and frequent trips to the hospital for palliative care are very high for her parents.
Her parents, who live in Brazil, are no longer able to cover these expenses, despite the support of their family, who live in France and help them from a distance. Their financial situation has become extremely difficult.
Keeping her care at home is essential for her health.
This fundraiser has one goal: to ensure Yara has access to the treatments, therapies, and support she needs to improve her quality of life and continue to develop, while staying at home in a safer environment for her health.
For Yara, every contribution matters. Even if you cannot donate, simply sharing her story and her fight is already a valuable form of support.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Yara.
