My cousin Yaqoub is 12 years old. He was playing soccer in an open field in Kordofan, Sudan, when a bomb went off. He lost his arm and his leg. He was just a kid playing outside.
After everything that happened, Yaqoub and his family made their way to Egypt. Our family has been taking care of him, his mom, and his siblings since they arrived. I have seen this boy up close. He is strong in a way that is hard to put into words. He smiles. He jokes. He still has so much life in him despite everything he has been through, and that is exactly why we are fighting so hard for him.
Without prosthetics, simple things that we do not even think about become impossible for Yaqoub. Getting up in the morning. Moving around the house. Going outside. Being a kid. He deserves to have those things back. Prosthetic limbs, physical therapy, and rehabilitation are not luxuries for him. They are what stand between him and a life he can actually live.
Every dollar from this campaign goes straight to his care and to helping his family get through this. This is my cousin. I would not be asking if I did not know exactly where this money is going.
We are in Ramadan, and if there was ever a moment to give, it is now. Please donate whatever you can. Please share this so more people can see his story. Yaqoub went through something no child should ever have to go through, and he deserves every chance to heal and move forward.
May Allah reward you for every act of kindness. Ameen.
