On Thursday, March 3, an explosion and fire destroyed part of the apartment complex where Yanira (who also goes by Patricia) lives with two of her children, Alex and Laura. The horrible fire, which took place at the Friendly Gardens Apartments in Silver Spring, was due to a cut gas pipe, and displaced dozens of residents -- including Yanira, Alex, and Laura.
We have set up this page to collect donations to help this wonderful family begin to recover from this tragedy. Water and smoke ruined most of their belongings, and they are currently staying with family in the area. We are collecting donations to help the family buy clothes, furniture, toiletries, gas, and whatever else they need to get back on their feet.
Many of you have witnessed and experienced Yanira's kindness, patience, warmth, and faith over the years. Let's come together and show her the same generosity of spirit when her family needs it most. Thank you for your help.
Go Fund Me has asked that I share a few notes about myself as the organizer of this fundraiser; how the funds will be sent to Yanira; and how she will use them:
Yanira is my children's former nanny, and a longtime family friend who I have known for more than 30 years. My mom, Peggy Fleury, and I asked Yanira if it would be okay if we set up this fundraiser for her after we heard about the explosion and fire. Yanira is extremely grateful for your help and support, and she has asked that the funds raised here be transferred to me, and then I will write her a check for the full amount raised on this page. She will use these funds in whatever way she needs to get back on her feet, such as to buy furniture, clothing, groceries, put down a security deposit on a new apartment, etc.
