Fundraising for a Hospital in Yagoori
Yagoori, Somalia – Fundraising for a Hospital
URGENT APPEAL FOR BASIC HOSPITAL BEDS & EQUIPMENT
Yagoori is a small rural town, located in the region of Sool, in the northern part of Somalia. After decades of civil war, political turmoil and instability, Somalia is gradually rebuilding and developing its infrastructure, including its public health system.
UNICEF reports that the Sool region suffers from a high maternal mortality rate, estimated at 1,400 deaths for every 100,000 live births. In comparison, the UK has a maternal mortality rate of 8 deaths for every 100,000. The number one reason for this high rate is due to the lack of access to basic healthcare. Furthermore, research shows that one of the most effective strategies to reduce the maternal mortality rate is by providing medical care in a timely manner. Delayed treatment is detrimental in obstetric (pregnancy and childbirth) emergencies.
Yagoori Referral Health Centre is an ongoing project led by the Sool Relief and Development Organisation (SORADO), an NGO with its main office in the city of Laascaanood. The aim is to provide adequate child and maternity care facilities in order to minimise the maternal mortality rate.
We believe in the power of the community and have so far raised $100,000 out of a goal of $350,000. The construction has begun, and as it is taking place, the next phase is to acquire essential medical equipment as well as covering the necessary running costs.
We are therefore setting up a separate fund that will exclusively cover these costs.
With your help, we can achieve this. A small donation from every one of you has the potential to change the lives of thousands of people.
Few things are more noble in life than helping those in need.
Yours Faithfully
