Hi, my name is Ximena Portillo, and I'm reaching out on behalf of my mom, Yadira Portillo Muñoz, who has been facing serious health challenges over the past month. Unfortunately, due to her condition, she's been unable to work, and we're struggling with medical bills, travel costs, and other expenses as we fight to get her the care she needs.

My mom's health journey started with her diabetes, which eventually led to her being diagnosed with low thyroid function. As her thyroid issues worsened, she began experiencing increasingly severe pain in her knee, which led her to not being able to walk. Her pain worsened after she had a hard fall on Sunday. After multiple visits to different hospitals, multiple tests, and no clear answers, she got life-watched to HaysMed in Hays, KS due to how bad her conditions were. At HaysMed, we were able to get clear answers and found out that she tore her ACL and meniscus, broke a bone in her knee, and has now developed an infection in the liquid that has built up inside her knee. Doctors have said that there can be a slight risk of the infection spreading through her veins, which can make things more complicated due to her being diabetic.

On top of all this, she is still managing her diabetes and thyroid issues, which have made her recovery even more complicated. The doctors have said she'll need several surgeries, ongoing treatments, and constant follow-up appointments. This is just the beginning of a long and difficult road to recovery. However, without insurance, the costs of her medical bills, surgeries, and treatments are quickly becoming unmanageable.
