Hi, my name is Mikayla Nguyen, and I am starting this fundraiser for my nephew, Xuan Duc Nguyen, and my sister, Do Ngoc Phuong Vy. My nephew was born on August 6th, 2023, with a defect in his gallbladder. When he was just a couple of months old, he underwent the Kasai surgery to reestablish the path for bile to flow from his liver to his small intestine. Unfortunately, the surgery, performed in Vietnam, was unsuccessful.

Now, at about 10 months old, my nephew has been diagnosed with hypertensive cirrhosis of the liver and urgently needs a liver transplant. Thankfully, his mother, my sister, Do Ngoc Phuong Vy, is a match. We are currently on the waitlist for the surgery in Vietnam; however, due to financial constraints, we cannot afford to go to a better hospital in Vietnam. As you see from the photos, he is turning yellow day by day.

I live in Los Angeles, Southern California, and I am working to bring my nephew and sister here for the surgery. I have already started the paperwork with Children's Hospital Los Angeles. However, the costs for medical insurance and long-term care, up to two years after the surgery, for both my nephew and sister, are beyond my means.

This is why I am starting this fundraiser. The funds will be used to pay for their healthcare insurance while they are in the US for treatment. My family will provide food and living arrangements for them during their stay. Any help, big or small, will make a difference in our journey to save my nephew's life.
