My name is Xolani Nojekwa, born and raised in Langa, a small township in Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up in a community where opportunities are limited, I always believed creativity could become my escape, my purpose, and my way to inspire others.

In 2015, I started my clothing brand called Misunderstood. The brand was born from my life experiences, my struggles, my dreams, and the desire to tell stories through fashion. What started as a dream from the streets of Langa has now grown into something bigger than I ever imagined.

Recently, I received an invitation to showcase my collection in Italy at Opening Milan Fashion Week. At first, I could not believe it. A young Black creative from a township in Cape Town being recognized internationally felt impossible. But this opportunity is real — and it could change my life forever.

The Scout Manager personally reached out to me after seeing my work and said he believed my designs deserved to be seen on an international stage. This platform will allow me to showcase Misunderstood on the runway, work with professional models, access backstage support including makeup artists and dressing room assistance, and gain global exposure for my brand.

For an independent designer like me, this is more than just a fashion show. It is a chance to represent where I come from, to inspire young creatives from townships, and to prove that dreams are valid no matter where you come from.

I am raising funds to help cover the costs of participating in this incredible opportunity, including travel, accommodation, showcase fees, and production expenses.
