Hello,
My name is Xochitl. I am an indigenous, first-generation alumni from UCSB, graduated in Sociology & Honors Chicanx Studies with a minor in Amerindian Indigenous Studies just this June! I worked three jobs- one being at a nonprofit group home for gang youth. I also moved into my first apartment at the beginning of the month. On June 29th, I completely broke my right ulna attending a punk show at Santa Barbara’s Casa De La Raza and was not able to get my surgery date until July 18th. My disability has not gone through and it’s expected I will be off work for total 2-3 months.
As a new graduate, I was hoping to work hard and help out my family but currently am focusing on paying my rent since I haven’t been able to work since the injury occured. I have been a community organizer since 2020 and have participated in many direct mutual aid projects and organizing. I hate to ask for money when there is so much need in the world but I am practicing vulnerability and creating the community we want to see by asking for help. Funds directly go towards paying rent to keep my dog and I housed through August and other monthly expenses! Leftover funds will be redistributed to local community efforts.
Thank you for your compassion!
