I've come here as a last and most hopeful resort. One of our dear beloveds in Honduras is in need of desperate help. Xiomara was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2022. She had a mastectomy, and the cancer still returned. Today she is in stage 4, and it has metastasized to her lungs.
Not only has she been fighting cancer, she's also had an ongoing battle with misdiagnosis and gross negligence by healthcare providers. I have witnessed this firsthand, and it's nothing less than heart-shattering. You see the photo here. She's a caring and loving mother of two adorable children who need their mother in their lives. This is why I'm here letting you know this tremendous need.
The 'free healthcare' in Honduras doesn't include necessary tests to determine cancer stages or how one is progressing. Tests like biopsies, markers, CT scans, injections, pills, and even the chemotherapy medicine must be paid for by the patient. To give you a snippet of what this looks like, one injection she needed after her mastectomy cost $600. Yes, L15,000, which is the equivalent of 600 US dollars!
I have watched Xiomara, her family, and friends hustle to earn money for these medical expenses. They have gone on television requesting help, which provided the supplies for her to have a food sale. She has actually had several food sales, earning money from making hamburgers and such. She's also had other creative events to earn money.
She's had two and a half years of actively working hard to garner the needed money. Her health has diminished, and she's simply too exhausted and weak to actively work. Her husband works long hours to provide for the family, and sadly, his long hours don't provide the extra income needed for her medical treatments. She's tapped out, and her community is tapped out.
If you're able, will you please help Xiomarita with her medical needs? Currently, she needs a little over $350 every month for her chemo and marker tests. Xiomarita is hopeful and in no way is giving up on this fight. As she says, "I have two children. I cannot give up fighting." She believes her life is in God's hands, and she told me she will never tire of asking Him to heal her. She also believes that God can use caring people to help save her life.
Please join us in praying for her healing. As you're able, please also join us in paying for her medical treatments and tests. I love Xiomarita beyond words. She is an inspiration to me in how she lives and loves others. Please, make a difference here. Whether you're able to give or not, we'll remain grateful. Thanks for reading this! Sending our love...
*I first met Xiomarita when she was just 5 years old. Her mother, Xiomara, was most active within our Signs of Love family. She was at every gathering and was fully involved in the mosaic cross social enterprise. Xiomara went Home in 2020 due to brain cancer.
