Xena has been part of my life for over 11 years. She’s a 13-year-old rescue who came into my world when I was struggling with severe depression, and she’s been my constant companion ever since. Her gentle spirit and loyalty have helped me through some of my hardest days, and she’s truly a member of my family.
Recently, I noticed a bump on the roof of Xena’s mouth. During a dental cleaning, the vet discovered she has a rare tumor called acanthomatous ameloblastoma. Despite this, Xena remains a happy dog, but the diagnosis was a shock. The veterinary specialist explained that the only treatment is surgery to fully remove the tumor and its margins. If left untreated, the tumor will grow back more aggressively and begin to destroy the bone in her mouth. The next step is a CT scan to determine how deep the surgery needs to go. The CT scan alone is $2300. The surgery ranges between $5700 - $6500.
I’m currently facing financial hardship and don’t have stable work, which makes the cost of Xena’s treatment overwhelming. The vet is hopeful that if we act quickly, Xena will recover well—even if she loses some teeth and a small part of her jaw. Waiting too long could mean losing even more of her mouth and face. I want to give Xena the best chance at a happy, healthy life for as long as possible. Any support will help us get her the urgent care she needs and keep her by my side.
