Xavier’s Journey

Xavier was first diagnosed with Stage IV high-risk neuroblastoma in March 2021 when he was 3.

After 18 months of intensive treatment in Australia, he completed frontline therapy in September 2022.

Since then, our family has faced three relapses.

Each time, Xavier has returned to chemotherapy — enduring powerful drugs, immunotherapy and radiation — while we’ve travelled between Australia and the United States to access specialist treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York.

The heartbreaking reality is that in Australia there are currently no curative treatment options for children in Xavier’s position.

Accessing clinical trials here involves enormous red tape, and government funding does not extend to overseas trials.

So if we want Xavier to have access to the most advanced therapies in the world, we have to take him to them.

His care now spans two countries. And so does our fight.

Right now, things are steady — and that is something we never take for granted.

If all continues to go to plan, he has just 2–3 more cycles until we reach words we once couldn’t even imagine: end of treatment.

If we continue to see clear scans, we’ll return to the US to focus on the next steps — keeping him in remission. Forever.

We know more options are emerging if we ever need them.

For some children like Xavier, this becomes a chronic fight — continuing treatment while searching for the cure.

Our family continues to juggle life across two countries. Andrew holds down the fort at home — running the business, doing school runs, managing cheer, carrying more than most will ever see — so that Xave can get what he needs.
