I want to preface this by saying, I never thought I would find myself in this situation; asking for your assistance; however, I need to call on my community, artistic and otherwise, at this time for support.
As you know, Winter 2021, I achieved a life-long goal to move to Los Angeles to continue pursuing my artistic endeavors. Before the move, I consulted with financial advisers, my wonderful artistic team, secured a support job and spoke to many of you to ensure I was the utmost prepared. I worked and saved for a long time; while I knew it would be a tight transition, I had a plan.
“We plan, God laughs.”
I booked a contract, happily completed it and included it in my forecast budgeting only to not get paid in entirety due to an internal error at the company. That expected income was budgeted for rent and utilities. Because of that delay and because I took a cut in pay, I found myself in a shallow financial hole. I am hoping that the internal error will be resolved in a timely manner, but there's a lot of contractual jockeying going on. Unfortunately, I also caught Covid-19 the week before Christmas and was out of work for 10 days. I progressively realized that in the current financial climate(inflation) my expenses were reaching new highs while my income was remaining stagnant and the financial hole was deepening. I asked my managers about a potential raise and a more flexible work schedule to give time for another viable source of income, but to no avail. The insufficient pay and non-adherence to an agreed upon schedule partnered with the delayed expected income created the need for me to find a new job.
I interviewed for a position at a new company, was made an offer that I couldn’t refuse, and completed my online employee onboarding for the new company. Thus I put in my two week’s notice. I would start in a week, however due to a transition in leadership at the company, my start date has been delayed an additional two weeks without compensation. I am grateful to have started this new support job this week and happy to say that I have pending auditions on the docket as well. All that said, however the unpaid rent/utilities are mounting and I still don’t have income coming in yet. I am boundlessly grateful for my family and the assistance they have been able to provide but if there is anything you can contribute, I would be so appreciative.
If you’re reading this, you know how much being out here means to me and to the expanding of my horizons. You know my work, you know my drive. I am your family, your friend, or a complete stranger who is chasing his dreams and is asking for your help to do so. I am so humbled…
