My names Veronica and my staffy, Xander, is having some unexpected health issues that have escalated pretty quickly. Sept 7th he vomited shortly after dinner. I thought maybe I accidentally fed him twice or something. Over the next two weeks, he wouldn't vomit again, but he'd gradually eat less and less until last week where I had to encourage him to eat by hand feeding, and adding human food because he was not looking well. Xander has a history of allergies, so I attempted to change his food to see if that would help, hoping this was just GI upset, but sadly it isn't. I have been able to coax him to eat enough, he is drinking ok, a bit lethargic, but overall hasn't seemed to be in pain. I began searching for lower cost vets that could do comprehensive testing, anyways. I have pet insurance through AKC but I learned the hard way that I only have accidental insurance, not illness, and he's too old for them to consider any further support (10yo).

The exam fees alone at any local emergency vet are $300+, just to get in the door. As a single mom, I can't swing that multiple times a month. I was able to schedule an appointment for Monday at a lower cost vet to get preliminary tests (it was $450) but, he needs more.

Please help if you can. I'd be forever grateful with any amount of help for X-rays and testing costs. This was the message I received from the vet this evening 9/29:

Xanders wellness blood work shows very elevated white blood cell count/3times norm/all same type neutrophils, decreased red blood cell count/mild anemia, high normal globulin/low normal albumin/consistent with inflammation. Urine show low concentration, high bilirubin and white blood cell, no red blood cells or bacteria. Most likely Xanders body is breaking down his own red blood cells as in IMHA. This can develop suddenly and can be treatable with prednisone but other health issues should be ruled out such as kidney or liver disease, Lepto, and cancer/leukemia.It would be best for Xander to go to mass vet emergency hospital where he can get abdominal ultrasound, narrow differential list and start treatments.
