I am organizing this on behalf of my best friend, Wyn Manufekai. Wyn is married to Siaosi (Toti) Manufekai, they have a 16 month-old son and a daughter due in June, and they live in Bay City, Michigan.
On Monday, March 15th, Toti was driving to work when he had a terrible car accident, rolling his truck and ejecting him out. This left him in critical condition. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital and immediately went into surgery to control internal bleeding.
Toti sustained many injuries including; broken ribs, internal bleeding, damaged spleen and kidney, lungs filled with blood and gastrointestinal fluid so they could not function, fractures to his spine, concussion, a broken nose and other facial bone breaks. Since the surgery, he has been kept sedated with machines working to clear his lungs.
After the first 24 hours, the doctors determined he would need to be life-flighted to a larger hospital in Ann Arbor, MI where he could be put on ECMO so his lungs could rest, but his body could receive the oxygen he needs.
As of right now, they are monitoring his oxygen levels and ECMO is their plan B. He is still sedated and on a ventilator as they attempt to ween him off. I will keep this account updated as to his progress, but the doctors expect him to be in the hospital at least a month with all his injuries.
This family needs you as they are about to face a mountain of medical bills for Toti's accident, and in 2 months time, the birth of their new baby as well. Toti was the main provider working a yard-scaping and concrete business as well as a generator technician for ESCON, so this family will most-likely be income-less for the foreseeable future as well.
