Dear friends and family,
Please pray for our son Wyatt. He was in a motorcycle accident last night. He was not wearing his helmet. He is in the ICU in Great Falls MT with severe head trauma. They did surgery last night to remove part of his scull to relieve pressure due to the swelling. So far he is in a coma and could go either way and has a high possibility of not making it or brain damage. But we're hoping for the best outcome and willing for whatever God's will is in this situation. Thank you for you thoughts and prayers. I may not be very responsive to questions for now since we don't know much and my heart is so broken right now. But just wanted to let people know so there is no mis information goes around, as word gets out about him. I will update as we find out more.

3:08 PM
Update on Wyatt. He has a hematoma on the left side of his brain that is continuing to swell. So they are doing another surgery and removing his scull on that side and removing the blood clot. He is still stable in other ways, but not as responsive as we are hoping. We'll know in an hour how he does.
Update: he's out of surgery. He did well. Still not responding as much as they would like to see. Now we just wait.

Saturday morning Aug 29th:
He made it through the night. He is slightly responding with his left arm and leg. His pupils are responding to light a bit quicker then yesterday also. This is really good. We'll hear later today how his CAT scan looked from 5am this morning. We're so hopeful and thankful he's still fighting.
Also to everyone who has sent us their love and prayers and care. We are feeling so thankful for your overwhelming love and support. We've also had conversations with quite a few people who have been through similar situations and come through to the other side. It's brought me a lot of hope. Thank you to everyone.

Aug 30th update:
Wyatt is very swollen today and hasn't got worse, but not much improvement either. Hoping to see more positive movement as the day goes on. Just lots of waiting now.
Aug 30th evening:
Wyatt had a restful day, and did start moving more towards the afternoon. He showed us he could breathe about 2-3 slow breaths off the ventilator, so that was a good thing too.
Tomorrow morning with be another CAT scan so we'll hear about that tomorrow hopefully by lunch time. We feel so loved by all your prayers. And we tell Wyatt how much you all care too. Thank you so much.

Aug. 31st morning:
Wyatt's CAT scan looked good this morning. It still shows lots of swelling, and significant brain damage to his frontal lobes, but no evidence of a major stroke. They say we won't know for weeks maybe months the extent of the damage and how much of it will heal. He's moving his arms and legs around now and then. They have him breathing on his own with the ventilator assisting so that is really good too.

Sept. 1st morning.
Wyatt's swelling has gone down a lot today, he's looking better. He's getting ready to get a tracheotomy and feeding tube today which will be a lot more comfortable for him.
Evening:
Wyatt's surgery's went well! It's nice to see his face again without tubes coming out. Not much else how changed today, but he seems much more comfortable.

Sept. 2nd morning:
Not much has changed. It was a mostly quite night. Praying we start to see some more movements soon. Trusting God since he knows all things, and thankful for His comfort.

Sept. 3rd:
Hard to believe it's been almost a week since Wyatt's accident. He's been sleeping a lot, slow movements. They took off his neck brace so he's more comfortable we hope. We'll keep waiting and praying.

Sept. 4th:
Cat scan looked the same today, swollen and bruised but no worse. Wyatt is stable on his tracheotomy and feeding tube. He's been breathing on his own for the last two days and off any sedatives, just getting concentrated saline solution (to reduce brain swelling) and Tylenol to keep his fever down.

Sept. 5th:
Wyatt continues to sleep. Very few movements, but still no worse. Going to buy him some hi-top shoes today to keep his ankles bent so they don't get too stiff. They've been feeding him for a couple days now and have gotten his stomach and intestines working properly. They are planning to do an MRI later next week that will answer a lot more questions. They want to be sure he can handle laying flat on his back for the 45 mins it takes to do an MRI before attempting it. Thank you again to everyone who has reached out and given us support in so many ways. I can't image how much harder this would be all alone.

Sept. 7th
It feels like we've been here for so long already. Wyatt continues to stay the same. No worse, but not responding more then he has been. He's moved his eyelids now and then. They have him in a recliner today to help keep his lungs clear. He's had lots of visitors and his friend Anna came and played his guitar for him for a while. Thank you for your continued prayers.
Sept. 7th evening:
So this wasn't a lot, but it was still big, and I'll take anything I can get. Wyatt seemed to give us a thumbs up, he was in the chair, his heart rate was high (around 135), he started to move his left hand open and close, and he slightly opened his eyes just a bit, so we held his hand and asked him to put up his thumb, we asked quite a few times and after some time he put up his thumb and we said now put it down and he did. He was shaking a lot and seemed to be trying very hard. The nurse was watching and said it did seem like a purposeful response, but he wouldn't do it again after that. I'm being optimistic, but I believe he knew what he was doing. I really hope so.

Sept. 9th:
Wyatt got a MRI yesterday and we learned about it today. His swelling has gone down significantly, but his brain has not shifted back to the mid line yet, but it's getting close. His inner brain shows some shear damage where the connections have been severed. This affects his ability to make conscious responses to stimuli. It also affects his ability to wake up and do anything. The neurosurgeon says he's seen worse and he's seen better. These parts is the brain can usually heal, but it is a very slow process. It really all depends on how Wyatt responds to this injury and time will tell.
If Wyatt stays in a coma after they put his skull back together he will go to a long term acute care hospital until he wakes up. If he wakes up while we're here they will start evaluating him to see if he's ready for rehab. At that point we will plan to send him to a hospital rehab center called Craig in the Denver area. But for now we will continue to hope and pray his healing goes well while he's sleeping. Thank you for all your love and prayers

Sept. 10th:
Today marks 2 weeks since Wyatt's accident. They've put him in a chair everyday lately to help stimulate his body and brain. We listen to lots of music. He moves his left leg and arm quite a bit. He's been opening both eyes slightly also. Still no response to anything when asked though. Lots of sleeping still. Doctors feel hopeful even though no responses to directions yet, they say his brain is still very swollen and everything is just going to be very slow and only tiny improvements are expected. I have a hard time imagining life without Wyatt in it. Whatever God's will is for his future we will accept, but I really hope it's a future with him able to have another chance at life. Keep on going Wyatt!

Sept. 12th
Yesterday was pretty much the same as the day before for Wyatt, and I did a lot of paper work for us to start getting guardianship for him so we can make medical decisions on his behalf for a while. I also found out we have good insurance coverage for him which is a giant blessing. Today he has been continually moving and he has started to move his head and even put his arm behind his head and throw his legs out of bed pretty often. They've had to put a camera in his room to keep an eye on him constantly to be sure he doesn't fall out! This is all really positive and the Dr. says he feels Wyatt is heading in the right direction. Still no following commands, but we continue to be as hopeful and patient as possible. He has developed bronchitis but it's very mild at the moment and they started antibiotics to help get rid of it quickly. Wyatt also got some nice purple pants to wear with his gown, so that is a plus

Sept. 15th.:
Yesterday Wyatt did really well. He started to move his own head back and forth, he also reached up and rubbed his eyes which shows he is starting to have responses to things beyond just reflexes. He opens his eyes up wide now and then, but still no following with his eyes. He's started to move his right side just slightly now and then. This is all so wonderful, and we're so thankful for every little sign he is healing! So today they are getting him prepped for his, hopefully, final surgery. The neurosurgeon will open up his head and put his bone flap back on. It will be attached with stainless screws and titanium plates. He will most likely have a few days of just recovering from this surgery. Then we will hope to see more progress. So thankful we're not alone through this all
Sept. 15th afternoon:
Wyatt came out of surgery, they said it went well with no complications. He's moving around like before surgery as he wakes up from anesthesia. So it's looking really positive:-)

Sept. 16th and 17th:
Wyatt is doing good. He is very swollen from the last surgery, and showing signs of pain, so they've kept him on pain meds quite a bit. When he has woke up, he has seemed to be tracking with his eyes a bit better then before. It is off and on, and his swelling makes it difficult for him to open his eyes. His CAT scan looks good, his brain seems to be reacting well to having the skull back together. The hole in his neck for his tracheotomy continues to get abrasion wounds and is not healing very well so they are going to plug the hole and see if he can start to swallow ok, but it will still be available if needed for now. We will just have to watch carefully to be sure he doesn't aspirate. We will keep updating as Wyatt gets more awake, and see if there are more good signs later this weekend! Thank you for your continued prayers!

Sept. 19th:
Tears of joy today! Wyatt is responding to us! We asked him to open his eyes and he did. We asked repeatedly to give us a thumbs up and he did, he also squeezed my hand each time I asked. His brain is healing and we can't wait until he starts to wake up more. We're so thankful!
Also they bandaged up his tracheotomy hole since he is swallowing just fine and breathing good. Keep getting better Wyatt we love you!

I decided to start a new post for Wyatt. We are so grateful for everyone's love and support and will try to continue to keep everyone updated every couple days or more often if something changes much. I really feel Wyatt is improving so much, and we're hopeful that he will get to start rehab maybe by the end of the month or beginning of next. Today he opened his eyes often, he held up his own head, he gave us a thumbs up again, and he opened his mouth when we asked to brush his teeth! He's been moving all over in his bed and it makes me nervous, but they have someone watching him constantly now, so I'm sure he'll be fine. He still doesn't seem to follow with his eyes, but I'm sure that will come soon. I also look forward to hearing his voice again someday, but we're so impressed with how far he's come already.

Wyatt's doing amazing, he is waking up out if his coma and starting to really take in what's going on around him. He's very confused and tired, but he is responding really well to simple commands and his right side is very slow and weak, but it is starting to work a tiny bit also. He has stood up with help and has started to eat a little food. He gives us high fives and smiles if we ask. So grateful!!

9/23/20
Another amazing day! More tears of joy Wyatt walked with assistance down a short hallway! He also ate an entire tray of food (finely ground) and pointed to what he wanted while eating. He smiled when we talked about going fishing when he feels better. This made me so happy to see!! Brennan and Millie and Gabriel talked to him on a video call and asked him to wave and he did. The plan is that they will fly him to the Craig hospital in Englewood Colorado on the 30th to start his rehab. I will go with him and be able to learn how to help him along his path of recovery.
Chris and I are just so thankful we get more time being Wyatt's parents and are really looking forward to caring for him, loving him, and doing things that he will enjoy and help him to have a full and enjoyable life. We're so thankful for God's care and kindness in each step along the way, and that we have such amazing friends and family that have been a blessing in so many many ways. We really love you all.

It was another good day for Wyatt! He walked around the whole hall area, which was quite a few steps. He got moved up to chunky food and regular water (instead of thickened) since he's swallowing so well. He wanted to get up to use the bathroom, and got helped(after we figured out where he wanted to go), and used the bathroom. The hardest thing today was when he talked to his Dad And brother Westin. We video chatted and Wyatt pointed and waved at them, and while they talked to him Wyatt started to cry. Which is good he seems to recognize them, but breaks my heart at the same time to wonder how he feels right now and feel so helpless. I know this is a long road of recovery, but I sure hope we can fill his life with smiles again someday.

Hard to believe it's been more then a month since Wyatt's accident. I'm missing the rest of the family but they are all in good hands. The littles are having a great time with their auntie Kimberly Scheller Osborn
and she and uncle Todd are giving them lots of attention and love. They are even keeping up on their online school work. Thank you so much Kim! Westin was home for a few weeks, but Chris and grandma work quite a bit, so he went to go stay with our long time friends Justin and Jody Patterson Morrill
. Glad he's with such dear friends and doing well.
So Wyatt and I fly out Monday to Denver CO and will get settled in at the Craig hospital there. Wyatt has started to use the restroom regularly, wants to get up often during certain parts of the day and walk around, is eating very well, and starting to answer yes and no questions. (With a thumbs up or thumbs down) I'm so grateful for his outstanding progress! I'm amazed about everyday at something new he is able to do. He likes to run the buttons on his bed and enjoys drinking lots of fluids. He still hasn't made any sounds at all and his right arm is very limited in it's ability to move. But I am looking forward to getting started on some serious rehab and can't wait to see how far he will continue to recover. God is good, and we are so blessed.

Today was the big moving day. We rode on an ambulance then on an airplane and then on an ambulance again. Wyatt did well strapped onto his stretcher, except on the airplane he was pretty upset about being buckled up the whole time. We arrived around noon at the Craig hospital. It seems like a pretty nice place. There were neurosurgeons neuropsychologist, physical therapist, speech therapist, caseworkers, nurses, and pharmacist to meet. We still have a few others that will be on Wyatt's care team to meet in the next few days. It was very busy and Wyatt just wants to sleep, I'm feeling pretty tired too:-) But glad we're here. I am staying at a family apartment on the same campus during the first 30 days of his stay. Hope everyone is doing well. Thank you for continued prayers, they are helping!

9/30/20
Wyatt spoke for the first time today!! So good to hear his voice. So thankful!
He's been doing lots of hard work here even in the first day we were here. Speech, then physical therapy, then talking to the phycologist, then occupational therapy, then speech again. So Wyatt mostly just wanted to sleep, but he got through day 1 and today he's doing great, but still very tired. It's hard to watch him as he looks so exhausted, but I know it's getting his brain started up again, so it's good. Love to you all

10/1/20
Fun at occupational therapy today. Wyatt's talking quite a bit and doing good:-)

10/5/20
The weekend was good here at Craig, but there was a lot of down time to figure out what to do with ourselves. Wyatt mostly took lots of naps and we played some games like hangman and puzzles and Legos. It went well and Wyatt even came up with a word for me to guess on hangman. We also enjoyed walking around outside in his wheelchair.
Today when we meet with his speech therapist, Wyatt was able to remember 18 of 30 questions she asked(like what state are we in, what is the place called that you are in, what month is it and so on) and point to 7 of 10 correct word answers! Compared to the second day he was here his score was 2 of 30 and 1 of 10. He's starting to remember things and recognize some people he knows. He is even starting to look interested in life just a little bit and not just staring blankly out of his eyes. This is so encouraging to see! Only a week and great progress is happening! We are so thankful for answered prayers

10/8/20
Today we had Wyatt's 10 day evaluation and conference. It was very good and informative. The neurosurgeon said that he is moving forward very quickly and is getting close to being off all his medications which is really excellent. He is at very low risk of having seizures, and he's moving around enough they will take him off the blood thinners soon. They also removed his feeding tube. The neuropsychologist said that he will take some time to get his memories in order or even remember a lot of things that have happened in the last year, but eventually some of those will come back. The physical therapist and occupational therapist both see a lot of improvements and will continue to work on strengthening his right side and muscles, along with his eyes to help get rid of having double vision.. the speech therapist moved him to a normal diet, and we just have to make sure he doesn't eat too fast He still jumbles lots of words and that will take time but it is getting better too. Wyatt has been enjoying reading a few comic books, playing games, and trying to figure out his Rubik's cube again. Once he gets that figured out, I'm sure he'll be doing pretty good! His favorite thing to do still is take a nap. The Drs said repeatedly that the reason Wyatt is getting better so quickly and so well is because of his youth and that he is very loved. If it wasn't for everyone's love and care and support for our family I know we couldn't support him nearly as well as we have been able to. I am forever grateful for everyone's support in every way. I really enjoy reading all the comments and you all mean a lot to me. Thank you!
