Help Wyatt Overcome Burn Injuries
Donation protected
Please join me in supporting Wyatt, and his family, through a horrifying accident. This young man would do anything for anyone if they asked and I want to do what I can to help ensure this recent graduate gets the support he needs to start off his adult journey on the right foot, and not drowning in medical, or any other related, debt. Wyatt is that goofy kid that always puts a smile on everyone’s face and has that eternal optimism that I admire so much!! Let’s start him off right and send a little love their way! Any amount will help!
On July 27th, 2024, Wyatt Juhler was preparing for his favorite hobby, something he’s dreamed of doing since he was 3 years old, Demolition Derby. He was signed up to participate in the Demolition Derby at the Langlade County Fair in Antigo, WI. He had everything laid out, the car was ready, and so was he. Wyatt was a happy go lucky recent graduate living his best life! Now… he’s facing up to a year of recovery after a freak accident started his derby car on fire.
Unfortunately, his wounds were only made worse due to the incompetence of firefighters on the scene. I hate to point a finger at our local first responders, but to qualify as a first responder, you better be willing to act like one. Instead, others on the scene stepped in to help free Wyatt from his vehicle and it may have been better if they left the firefighting to others as well. Any firefighter should have known not to throw water on a gasoline fire, yet after our local firefighters finally chose to react they only managed to make things worse, as the water they sprayed onto the fire only caused it to burst into flames again.
The event was all going as planned and then was paused due to a participant's bumper being ripped off during the first few moments in the derby. Just as he started to get going in the event again, Wyatt hears the red flags and sirens again and looks down to see gas pouring out onto his floorboard and before he could react his car burst into flames. His memory is a bit fuzzy after that, recalling the pain of being burned, and screaming for help, but he can’t actually recall who saved his life.
The ambulance took him to the local hospital, but the burns were too severe so he was flown via helicopter to the Madison Burn Center, where he’s been since July 27. Wyatt has 3rd degree burns on 15% of his body, including his upper back on his right side, his right thigh, his face and neck areas, and his entire right arm. All which have had to receive skin grafts.
