Bay Area Phoenix recently represented the WPBA and the United States at FIBA WBLA in Santiago, Chile, where the team made history by winning the gold medal.

This victory affirmed what WPBA has been building since 2022: a meaningful development pathway for women pursuing opportunities in the WNBA and professional basketball around the world. More than 100 athletes have been connected to professional opportunities overseas, players from the WPBA ecosystem have signed WNBA rookie-scale contracts, and our athletes have now brought home gold on the international stage.

Behind every achievement are people who gave their time, talent, and belief to make it possible.

A private donor generously covered the team’s flights to Chile. Once the team arrived in Santiago, the host city assumed responsibility for the remaining competition-related expenses, allowing WPBA to complete the first goal of this campaign.

Now, WPBA has one goal left: taking care of the remaining obligations from the completed 2026 season.

The net funds raised through this campaign will be directed toward outstanding payments owed to players, coaches, trainers, referees, staff, and vendors for their work during the 2026 season.

WPBA’s first fundraising milestone is $26,000 as part of the larger effort to address the remaining balances. The organization is committed to providing updates as progress is made.

Fulfilling WPBA’s remaining 2026 season obligations is the final goal of this campaign and an important part of honoring the people who helped make this historic year possible. With the continued support of our community, WPBA can complete this goal and continue strengthening the pathway it has built for women in professional basketball.
